Three daily departures from Calafate at 8.00 am, 13.00 pm and 18.30 pm (departs from the local bus station).
Buses from Chalten to Calafate depart daily 6.00 am, 13.00 pm and 18.00 pm.
We recommend you to stay there at least one night, going in the morning and coming back the day after in the afternoon bus.
In El Chalten you don’t have to pay entrance fee because it’s inside the National Park…and the trekkings are all free….you have just to take the trek you want to!
There are several hostels where to stay, and in summer it is better to go with some reservations because everything is full. Or, another option is to camp because all the camp sites are free of charge.
For people that are thinking on heading north, there is a company that goes through the Route 40 from Calafate to Perito Moreno Town (where are the Caves of Hands) and they let you stop in Chalten for the nights you want to…and they depart from Chalten to Perito Moreno Town every odd day (1, 3, 5, 7, etc…) and it takes 14 hours to get there….and from Perito you can go to Bariloche if you want to. |
